SWITZERLAND Readers's Tips -
Good morning, The Bernina Express goes from St.oritz to Tirano over the Bernina Pass, it is a very wondereful experience.outh from Tirano to
Milano and then you would connect for Venice.
The William Tell if I recall starts in Luzern by
a boat trip to Fluelen, there changing to rail
and going south to Milano thru the Gotthard Tunnel. There is much more wonderful scenery on
this route, especially before and after the tunnel.Woould take the William Tell route and leave the Bernina for a later trip.
Richard of LaGrange Park, IL.
We have 4 days in endMay; fly in and out of ZRH.
Being our first trip,we'd like to see more of the 'touristy' Switzerland, big on scenic train/ boat/cable car rides.e're quite happy travelling several hours provided we can do so without route repeats.
Would love some suggestions on the itinerary.ay 1 Arrive AM and spend Day in ZRH.ay 2 Interlaken andamp; Jungfrau.ay 3 Train to, Lausanne/ Montreux and by boat to Geneva.ay 4 Geneva.ack to ZRH evening.
Option 2
Day 1 Lucerne/ Berne.ay 2 Interlaken/ Jungfrau.ay 3 Geneva by boat from L/M.ay 4 Zermatt.ack to Zrh PM.
Else Day 4 can be Zurich too.
I did go thru a ton of useful info on the boards, but any inputs on the above would be great.f (given our sightseeing preferences you have an alternate suggestion, that'd super too.hanks.
Day 4 in option two won't work, even in Switzerland a day only
has 24 hours.
I love Bern, but if you tack in onto the end of your arrival day,
after "doing" Luzern, you'll just fall into bed there no point.
Sleep in Luzern.
So: Day 1: Arrive in Z.irport, go to the adjacent building (follow
"To Trains" signs, buy your tickets, go down below and take a
train to Luzern, either with a transfer in Z.tself, or one of the
few direct ones where you can stay put.
Find your hotel, and see if the weather allows going up on either
the Rigi or the Pilatus people at the hotel will tell you.r leave
your bags at the station and ask there, they'll point you in the
right direction.ead up on Rigi and Pilatus beforehand.
Keep moving, you'll be woozy, but if you tough it out, you'll
crash after dinner and you'll have a better sleep and a better
time the next day than if you nap on the first day.
Day 2 get up early and catch the 07:55 that gets you to the top
of the Junfraujoch by 12:07.t's a scenic ride all the way, over
the Brand252;nigpass, you have to change trains a few times, in
Interlaken Ost (East, in Lauterbrunnen, and up on the Kleine
Scheidegg.
Do this trip only if the weather is brilliant, and take really good
wraparound sunglasses and sunscreen and a jacket, it can be
brilliantly blinding and chilly at the same time.
Day 3 you can take the train to Montreux there is the
GoldenPass with bigger windows and the regular train, they
share the same route and tracks.n Montreux you should go see
the nearby Castle of Chillon, and I recommend very much that
you get a hotel room in the village of
