SWITZERLAND Readers's Tips - No need to reserve (you can if you want to, costs extra and ties you down to that specific train not worth it in my experience. Haven't used the Swiss Pass, make sure you read instructions. When waiting for a train in Switzerland, position yourself so that the right kind of carriage will come to a halt in front of you.ig blueandwhite lettering signs A B C D overhead work in conjunction with yellow traincomposition posters and P. announcements before the train pulls in, like 2nd class sectors C and D that's your cue. Trains stop only briefly get on and walk through the train until you find a seat. It is customary to have a bag or something on the empty seat beside oneself (in the quiet hope that nobody will sit down in the adjacent seat it's also customary to ask somebody nicely if that seat next to them is taken, which is a signal to them to take their stuff off that seat and let you sit down as the train gets more crowded.hey will.ay "thank you". Other than that, it is not customary to strike up a conversation, and generally the volume is kept down folks want to read or snooze or relax, the Swiss like their quiet.o much so that there are now a number of "Ruhewagen" "Silence Carriages" in circulation where all conversation is a nono So if you see the sign "Ruhewagen" shhh. The Swiss Pass says something about "only valid with passport" but no one ever asked to see th
