Hotels for Your Ski Vacation in Switzerland
SWITZERLAND Readers's Tips -
I agree that staying in one place makes the short trip feel a lot
longer being familiar with your surroundings a few days in a
row feels like "coming home" every night.
You can have wonderful views of the main mountains if you stay
in the Thunersee (lake Thun Interlaken area.aybe in
Interlaken itself its main claim to fame is not its own beauty
but its handy location (between two lakes in a prime position to
let visitors go off in many directions for daytrips of all kinds.
Plenty of hotels and restaurants, two train stations, fast
connections to everywhere, that's Interlaken.
You can make a daytrip to Luzern from there, currently with
buses standing in for a stretch of railway that was flooded out in
August, but it hardly makes the trip any longer.
By late November you probably can't go to some places any
longer that are high up, mountain passes close.ut that doesn't
mean you're losing out.rom Luzern both the peaks of both the
Rigi and the Pilatus provide wonderful views if the weather
cooperates and the skies are clear.hat's a big if, of course.
From Interlaken there are similar excursions providing wonderful
views just for an example, Niesen and Niederhorn, two (minor peaks
on opposite sides of lake Thun, both can be reached in well under an
hour from Interlaken, both have cablecars to the top you can hike
part or all of the way if you're game, and they feed you at the
top, lunch with a milliondollar (sorry, million Swiss Francs
view from both places.
From Interlaken you can get to Mürren (via Lauterbrunnern in
about 55 minutes, and to Wengen (via Lauterbrunnen in about
40 minutes, pretty much to anywhere in that region called
Berner Oberland.ut most of those places don't have nearly the
range of accommodation and dining choices that Interlaken
provides, except maybe Gstaad/Zweisimmen, a rather upscale
place.
Interlaken is easy to get to, for example from the train station
underneath the Zürich airport it takes about 2:20 hrs or so (depending
on connection via Zürich (city and Bern, a few trains have direct
carriages, others require a transfer in Zürich and/or Bern.lenty of
trains, at least two or three every hour.
Hope this helps
