I stayed at Tryp de Berne which is just a few blocks from the train station.It's a lot less expensive than most hotels and the hotel isn't bad for the money.The area is OK during the day, however at night a few crazies were out and about.As a female traveling alone this was a great concern for me so I will not stay there again.I don't know if the entire area around the train station is so scary, but if it is, I would say to avoid that area since you have a small child.
