Hotels for Your Ski Vacation in Switzerland
SWITZERLAND Readers's Tips - It's a bit of a mad dash, long and expensive, but sure, it can be done.re you absolutely convinced you must go to Gimmelwald of all places Nothing wrong with it, but it's a highup mountain place with nothing much else except a hostel (good luck finding space in August and serious hiking trails. It's not easy to get to Gimmelwald a train from Interlaken, a bus, and a long walk (about 1 and189; hours, then a gondola ride.r two trains to Mand252;rren, a long walk, and a gondola. It's the end of the world no shops, no nothing. I hope you have backpacks for serious walker/hikers, not suitcases, they won't get you to Gimmelwald. believe you also have to bring your own groceries etc.make sure you know the rules (www.mmelwald.m. If you go, you will have to count on spending at least two nights there, because you don't even get there until late afternoon, then you should have at least one full day, spend the night, then leave if you must (although it's fairly pointless to go for only one day, considering how much it costs and how long it takes but that's for you to judge, of course. Also if you do go there, why go back to Paris Book yourself a flight that gets into Paris and leaves from Frankfurt, it shouldn't cost more, or not much more, probably less than the ticket back to Paris from Switzerland. Anyway, if you insist, you can go to www.il., input Paris and Gimmelwald and a time like 07. and you'll find the connections.ou won't get prices on the website but on the French site the stretch from Paris to Bern can be as little as Û 30 or as much as Û 75 for adults, then there's the rest of the way, maybe CHF32 or so to Lauterbrunnen plus the rest of the way. There is no reason why your daughter can't travel to Frankfurt, none whatsoever, people young and old do it everyday, it's clean and safe and nice. From Gimmelwald to Frankfurt airport takes 6:21 hours.he will have to change trains many times, so if she has a lot of luggage, it will be a major pain.ut if you've been to Gimmelwald, she will not have luggage, or you couldn't even have gotten there. Now, if we can forget Gimmelwald, here's the deal: You'll be in France in August while most of France shuts down and goes on vacation (and much of the rest of Europe also.hat doesn't mean that you can't stay in Paris and go sightseeing, it's just that the place is a bit different some shops are closed, there are more tourists than there are French people. I would strongly suggest that you spend the short time you have being based in Paris, in an affordable hotel not right in the center, that brings the price down.ith the metro you can be anywhere real quick.t can get hot and muggy, so if you shop for a place with a/c that could be wise. Then plan on day trips, they don't have to be expensive and superorganized look at my recent post on the France board about the 1day trip to the Loire castles I took, to see how simple
