SWITZERLAND Readers's Tips -
About three hours (minimum, not counting stops, traffic jams
etc.o Taesch where all road traffic comes to a halt you park
and ride a shuttle into trafficfree Zermatt, which takes a bit of
extra time.
You don't need a car, the trains get you there in about the same
time, with one change in either Visp or Brig (depending on the
connection you pick where you climb aboard the local train that
goes up the mountain.here are trains leaving Geneve at 05:50,
6:36, 7:36, 8:50, 9:36, 10:36 they all take either 3:22 or 3:36
hours including the transfer, and they get you right into Zermatt.
Can't help you with a hotel.
I am beginning to think we are too ambitious in planning our trip to Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.Looks like Zermatt is out.
We have only 11 days flying into Geneva and out of Berlin. We are starting to cut back on itinerary.
Munich may be out but wanted to see Dauchau and that castle Neushinsomething.I promise I will be able to say it by the time we go.

It's Neuschwanstein, many folks stay in nearby Fuessen.
You can do it, but probably not much of Austria
(Neuschwanstein is very near the border.
Try this on for size:
On day 1 you fly into Geneva and walk along the lake to get your
bearings, maybe a quick boat trip to Nyon and back by train, just
to keep moving to fight the jetlag.
Day 2 train to Zermatt and back to Geneva.
Day 3 train to Bern, check into hotel (book it for two nights and spend
the day, it's a great city for walking, relaxing, walking some more in
the historic center where all the action is (and has been for 700
years..ake arrangements for a rental car for day 5 early, with a
oneway dropoff near Munich.
Day 4 hit one of the great targets in the Berner Oberland,
Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch for example not cheap, but
unforgettable on a good day Sleep again in Bern.
Day 5 Get the prearranged car and head for Luzern (takes just a
bit over an hour.troll the city and the famous (rebuilt bridge,
do whatever, go up on the Rigi or Pilatus, and head for the
Munich region, say, Fuessen when you're done (a good 3 hours
plus stops as needed.
Day 6 Schloss Neuschwanstein, maybe a drive into Austria to the
Innsbruck region and stay the night.
Day 7 Back across the mountains and to Dachau.
Day 8 drop off the car and fly from Munich to Berlin several
cheap options at www.yscanner.m into either Tegel or
Schoenefeld airports.
How does that sound
If you can't get a satifactory car deal, you can do it all by train.
If you leave Bern on the 07:36 train you're in Luzern at 09:03.f
you then leave Luzern at 17:10 you get into Munich (central
main station at 22:44, or you leave at 17:35 you get in at 23:30.
Sure, that's late, but if you reserve a hotel room near the station
for the night, it's okay, you'll doze on the train.
From Munich you'll have no trouble getting on a coach tour to
Neuschwanstein if you don't have your own car the hotel or t
