SWITZERLAND Readers's Tips - Hello Anna Phila Although this might seem like a simple sidetrip, going to Switzerland from Munich may be more trouble than its worth.I tried connections to several great Swiss destinations, and this is what I found: Munich St.oritz will take 6. hours with two changes: leave Munich at 8. and arrive at 14. Munich Luzern will take 6. hours with two changes: leave Munich at 9. and arrive at 15. Even the easiest trip to Zurich will take more than five hours. That doesn’t leave you any daylight to explore and enjoy your Swiss destination.I tried some night trains, but they all require so many connections that you wouldn’t get any sleep. So I don’t think this is a good idea for you. You may consider two things: stay longer in Switzerland (yes or find a nice village close to Munich that will give you that nice cozy feeling.I would suggest you look at GarmischPartinkirchen, Kitzbuehel, Hallstatt, St Johann, or anywhere in the Arlberg (not sure of the spelling Alps. You can start with a search at www.scover.m or www.to.m. Also remember that, even if you decide to go to one of the “pricey” resorts, there are always more economical inns hidden somewhere look for neighboring villages or inns on the outskirts. Hope you find a great place s

While I prefer Switzerland over every other country, you might think about the Barvarian Alps.ertainly nothing is much quainter than Berchtesgarten andamp; that is an easy train trip from Munich.ven tho the mts aren't as high as the Swiss Alps, the feel is much the same.lso Garmisch is an easy train trip.t is a bit more cosmopolitan (hey, I haven't been to either in years, so who knows now.heck the Germany forum.he highest mt in Germany looms over Garmish (Zugspitzandamp; a trip to the top is well worth the effort. Have a great trip.inda We're planning to spend 35 nights in the BO area in late June/early July.f the weather is good, we will probably spend most days hiking in the mountains but also want to explore Interlaken and the lakes.e're trying to decide between staying in Wengen and Interlaken.engen sounds more scenic and convenient for hiking, but we're concerned it might be a little boring and will not have too many choices for good dinners in the evening.nterlaken sounds like it will have much more to do and might have more comfortable weather in the evenings but would mean spending a lot more time on trains getting up into hiking areas. Any advice would be much appreciated, as well as any recommendations on nice hotels. BTW, we're also planning to spend a few days in Zermatt, in case that would change anyone's advice.we're not sure how it will compare to Wengen or Interlaken. Thanks much

Good morning, PV The rail trip from Interlaken to Wengen is about 40 mins with a change in Lauterbrunnen. If you stay in Wengen, you can take the cable car at the far end of town up to the Mannlichen, from there the Mannlichenbahn goes down to Grindelwald.r you can go back down by ra
